The 2024 edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels has been unveiled in a glittering ceremony in London, with Asia making a particularly strong showing. The prestigious event, held at the historic Guildhall, celebrated some of the globe’s most luxurious and innovative hotel experiences. The highlight of the evening was Capella Bangkok, which not only secured the top spot on the coveted list but also earned the title of The Best Hotel in Asia.
Capella Bangkok: A Riverside Retreat of Elegance
Capella Bangkok’s ascent to No.1 is impressive. Climbing from its previous position at No.11 in 2023, this riverside gem now stands as the world’s best hotel in 2024. Opened in 2020, the hotel is an oasis of tranquility amidst the bustling energy of Thailand’s capital. Nestled along the Chao Phraya River, the property boasts lush gardens and striking architecture that ensures every one of its 101 rooms has a view of the water. Its private villas and suites, some with their own pools, offer a boutique experience wrapped in five-star luxury.
What sets Capella Bangkok apart is its attention to personalized service. Guests are treated to the unique expertise of “Capella Culturalists” — personal butlers who offer an insider’s guide to the city’s most exciting and diverse activities. The hotel’s Auriga spa is also renowned as a sanctuary for relaxation.
Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, celebrated the win: “Capella Bangkok is a rare oasis in the middle of Thailand’s bustling capital, offering world-class service while retaining the intimacy and personality of a boutique hotel – making it a worthy winner of the top prize.”
Asian Excellence Shines in 2024
Beyond Capella Bangkok, Asia continued to lead the charge in luxury hospitality. A total of 19 hotels from Asia earned spots on The World’s 50 Best Hotels list this year, reinforcing the region’s position as a global hub for elite travel experiences.
Bangkok emerged as a standout destination with four hotels making the list, further cementing the Thai capital’s growing reputation in the world of luxury travel. In addition to Capella Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental Bangkok (No.12), Four Seasons Bangkok at Chao Phraya River (No.14), and The Siam (No.26) also made their mark on the prestigious list.
Japan also impressed with three standout properties. Aman Tokyo secured the No.7 spot, while Bulgari Tokyo (No.22), a newcomer, received the Nikka Best New Hotel Award 2024. Additionally, Park Hyatt Kyoto (No.27) showcased the country’s dedication to blending tradition with cutting-edge luxury.
A Global Celebration of Hospitality
While Asia claimed the lion’s share of accolades, hotels from other regions also had their moments in the spotlight. Italy’s Passalacqua earned the No.2 spot and was named Best Boutique Hotel for its intimate charm, while Rosewood Hong Kong secured No.3, adding another achievement to Asia’s stellar showing.
Capella Bangkok may have taken the top honor, but the dynamic and diverse experiences offered by hotels across the world—spanning from Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula to Italy’s Lake Como—highlight the global nature of excellence in hospitality today.
With The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024 showcasing a stunning array of properties from urban escapes to tranquil beachside retreats, it is clear that the world of luxury travel continues to evolve, offering something for every kind of traveler.
