Notes From the Road: Halfway Through a Journey

Our Director of Photography Sean O’Sulivan is back with another photo essay of life on the road with Caravan 2013

image-8The 2013 Caravan has passed the halfway mark and reached the dead centre of Asia. We are in the Altai Republic just above the Mongolian and Kazak frontiers. This is wild, beautiful country…mountains, lakes and hundreds of rivers with small villages on the banks. Much of the country seems to be virgin forest.

Vikrom and a reconnaissance team found a wonderful campsite….on the banks of the Katun River….the finest we have seen since leaving Bangkok in March over 10 000kms ago. The emerald coloured waters run cold and deep….Vikrom went for a swim. That evening the crew made a fire and sang …before it began to rain!

2013-07-28_092843-1Getting into the site was a lot easier that getting out…the heavy rain during the night bogged down some of the campervans. Vikrom coordinated operations and everyone had to pull and push in the morning before we could leave for Novosibersk.

Next week…Kazakhstan….
