Social Media Week Comes to Jakarta

Social Media has changed so many aspects of modern life across Asia. To reflect on its power and importance, Social Media Week (SMW) Jakarta 2019 will be held from 11 to 15 November 2019, simultaneously with SMW Holland, SMW Puerto Rico, SMW Rome and SMW Toronto. The event will have a series of Workshop classes from 11 to 15 November 2019

A number of intriguing ideas and narratives on the digital, creative and technology sector will be discussed by more than 150 national and international speakers, including Dina Bhirawa and Donny Eryastha (TIKTOK), Karen Cheng (9GAG), Angga Dwimas Sasongko and Adriano Qalbi (Visinema Pictures), Oddie Randa (Gushcloud), Alaina Appleman (Facebook), Dwi Adriansah (Twitter), and Dimas Djayadiningrat (Film/Advertisement Director), with other speakers and communities to be announced soon.

“Speakers at SMW Jakarta will discuss very interesting topics that will benefit the audience — as a user, media creator, developer, marketer, influencer or brand strategist across any industries — as they will be able to gain the latest insights on social media and technology development as a social fact well known by people from various walks of life”, said Social Media Jakarta Week Chairman and Merah Cipta Media CEO Antonny Liem.

For years, social media has developed to be more than a platform that serves as a social currency and a channel to stay connected.

Social media nowadays not only a sharing space to inform others of one’s conditions or good news, it has become a story-telling canvas – a media for stories that may form opinions, trigger social change, and provide both driving force and inspiration for fellow netizen and public in general.

However, for everything that’s wonderful about the way social media connects us, there are a number of pressing downsides. Social media has increasing more concerns in the past few years, with fake news and misinformation that spread significantly farther, faster, deeper, and more broadly than truth in all categories of information.

It is the responsibility of every social media user to turn this situation around. “SMW Jakarta 2019 invites the audience and the general public to increase their awareness and responsibility with content distribution by educating, guiding, and nurturing a harmonious social media environment. We would also like to invite people to share and act, as it is not only the responsibility of social media platforms, but also their users to address an uptrend in negative information and content.”, Antonny continued.

The Chairman further said that everyone needed to contribute positively by educating the society on being responsible in using social media. “We need to learn from the experts on how they effectively use social media to achieve their companies’, clients’ or personal objectives,” said Antonny.

In addition, we need to take part in guiding and nurturing harmonious business activities on social media. Social media is more than an advertising space, it’s a media for brands to build connections with their target audience and be a part of their lives.

Creatively sharing and acting through one’s content and inspiration is also important to drive every single audience to create amazing works of their own.

The main Conference and Community Meet Up sessions will be conducted in parallel for three days from 13 to 15 November 2019 at The Hall, Senayan City, 8th floor, JakartaIndonesia. On 11-12 November 2019, there will also be a series of Satellite Events independently hosted by various organizations coordinated by SMW Jakarta.
