Taiwan’s New Airline Adds Routes to Thailand, Japan and Soon North America

Taipei-based upstart Starlux Airlines has big plans for growth as the airline adds routes to Thailand, Japan and hopefully North America.

The new carrier which recently announced their new routes to Bangkok, Osaka and Tokyo from Taiwan also announced a major focus on international expansion. Starlux Airlines plans for North America are ambitious and exciting.

According to the airline, they have applied to serve 15 destinations across the US, including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Guam, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK), New York (Newark), Ontario, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and Washington DC, beginning in 2022.

This is a bold move from a bold new airline.

For those who haven’t been following the carrier’s plans, Starlux is a boutique airline in Taiwan, founded in May, 2018. The airline currently operates a fleet of A321neos with 188 seats, including eight in business class and 180 in economy class. Each seat in business class can transform into an 82-inch fully flat bed. Every seat in economy is equipped with a personal entertainment system. The cabin interior is designed by BMW Group Designworks, featuring natural and warm color to present the concept of “Home in the Air.”

The airline made a splash at the Farnborough International Airshow in 2018 when it signed a MOU with Airbus to purchase 17 A350XWBs. The order includes 12 A350-1000s and five A350-900s, which are scheduled to be delivered beginning in late 2021.

Running counter to many airlines, they’ve actually sought to add routes lately.

We like what Starlux is doing and look forward to trying them out and writing a flight review in the future.
