Asian Millennials – Marketers Can’t Get Enough of Them

Asian millennials have been changing the social, economic and political landscape of Asia for a while. But their influence is still growing as their careers and disposable income increase. This means for years ahead, the largest, most affluent, most influential demographic will continue to change the very fiber of Asia. So yes you should be paying attention.

Research firm Asia Insight has spent a lot researching millennials across the content and have some pretty interesting data for marketers, governments and really anyone who cares to understand how they’ll change the future.

Millennials matter because of their sheer numbers
The Millennial generation are generally considered to be between 20 to 40 years old and account for about 27% of the global population or about 2 billion people.  And Asia has the most millennials, around 60%. That’s a huge number.

Interestingly the countries in Asia with the highest percentage of millennials are Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Philippines and Vietnam. However in absolute terms India, China, the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil have the world’s largest Millennial populations.

Millennials are very different consumers than their parents. They’re far more tech savvy, better educated and have different motivating factors. Understanding the needs, wants, interests and desires of the world’s largest cohort is critically important.

We feel very confident that globally millennials will be a force of good and in Asia they have the opportunity to remake business, governments and culture. It’ll be an exciting time ahead to see how they change the world they inherit.
