At the recent Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants award gala in Bangkok, Thai Chefs came out on top. In fact for the third year in a row Bangkok-based, Indian-inspired Chef Gaggan Anand’s eponymous eatery Gaggan once again was named the best restaurant in Asia. Kolkata-born Anand is a superstar in the food world and a good example of how the food scene is changing all across Asia.
Anand has expanded his empire with a burger and beer restaurant Meatlicious which he co-owns with his wife and he has backed new restaurants led by young talent, such as Sühring.
Looking at the entire list it’s easy to see how Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo dominate the food industry across the continent. Bangkok always receives multiple awards and these days Seoul is an up can comer. China tends to lag the rest of Asia but we think that will change in the years ahead.
