This is the first part of an ongoing series of video reports which look at how biotechnology is changing lives in Asia. In this edition we explore how scientists in Thailand are developing new genetic strains of Eucalyptus tress which match better match diverse Thai conditions. This makes them grow faster and be more disease and pest resistant.

Biotechnology helps to create a better tree which in turn allows farmers to grow the trees with less risk and more confidence. The result is that they earn an income and plant a sustainable, renewable product. It’s a win-win.

The farmers have more income and the area’s environment improves.
