As the world’s most used language, Mandarin is rapidly becoming a global language which will someday surpass English as the language of business. So does this mean business leaders and students should learn Mandarin? Yes, but it could also become a global language for written communication as well. So it may make sense for more people to learn to write Chinese.
Mandarin is written using Chinese or Han characters which is a pictorial system where each symbol represents a different word. There are two main styles, the traditional version is mainly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, while the simplified version dominates China, Singapore, and Malaysia.
Language experts estimate that you need to learn 2,000-3,000 characters to read a newspaper, thus it could be an easily adopted system. And that makes us think, should everyone learn to write Chinese?
