From 1998 – 2017 Myanmar suffered the most fatalities from extreme weather. A lack of infrastructure and an unpredictable environment contributed to problems. The cost of climate change needs to be measure in the toll it takes in both economic and human terms.
It’s instructive to note that six of the 10 most effected countries are in the western hemisphere in the Caribbean. Poverty plays a role in leading to casualties from climate change. However, developing countries were not the only ones affected. Russia, France and Italy also round out the top 10.
The world faces a serious environmental crisis as the true cost of climate change must be measured in both dollars and lives.
