The Rise of Volunteer Tourism

Huma Challenge, a division of World Expeditions, is dedicated to helping charities raise funds by offering their supporters inspired travel experiences. Huma Challenge has teamed up with 5 American charities to offer their supporters the perfect reason to fundraise.

The International Child Resource Institute (ICRI) invites supporters to fundraise for its projects in Nepal and join a group of fellow supporters in Nepal in February 2016, for a hike in the Annapurna range, followed by visits to some of ICRI’s projects in Kathmandu, to see first-hand how funds raised will help some of Nepal’s most marginalized children.

Animal lovers with a soft spot for bears, will find it hard to resist Animals Asia’s Vietnam Challenge in May 2016, where supporters cycle, hike and kayak around northern Vietnam before making the most of the exclusive opportunity to visit Animals Asia’s bear sanctuary. The funds raised will be used to put an end to bear bile farming in Vietnam.

In the north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh in India, is a community like no other. Jhamtse Gatsal is home and school for up to 90 children. The children from nearby villages each have a background of adversity. The founder, and former Buddhist Monk Lobsang Phunksok, is driven to help each of them achieve their fullest potential. The community ‘shot to fame’ this year with the release of the award-winning documentary ‘Tashi and the Monk’. In April 2016, Jhamtse Gatsal opens its arms to welcome a group of supporters into their community to build a greenhouse that will enable them to be self-sufficient. Funds raised by the participants will be used to improve the community for the children.

Women LEAD Nepal invites supporters to join them in March 2016 to run (or walk) the 5km International Woman’s Day Fun Run in Kathmandu, followed by a 6-day trek into the Annapurna foothills to deliver school supplies to communities along the trail. In Kathmandu participants will take a half-day workshop at the Women LEAD Nepal office to learn how the funds raised will equip and empower young women of Nepal to become leaders in their country.
